Mia's Birth Story 8/29/08

Okay so this whole thing started with a rash. I was concerned because it was starting to spread. I was going insane itching like crazy and all I wanted was to know was if it was okay to apply an itching cream or take some kind of over the counter medication to stop the itch. I was told to come into labor and delivery to be monitored. Well I thought this was ridiculous but it was the only way to get some relief so I went. I called Luis and told him to stay at work and that I was very certain that I would be home really soon. Little did I know my midwife had different plans for me. While being monitored the rash got worse, and the baby's heart rate dropped a couple times plus my contractions were pretty regular. My midwife was concerned that the rash was cholestasis which would have affected the baby so they wanted to induce me immediately. The rash was eventually confirmed to be pupps which is not so serious just annoying. Anyway so on Wednesday 8/27/08 around 1:00 pm I was admitted to labor and delivery and the nurses immediately started inducing me. The method they used was called a Foley Bulb plus pitocin. They insert this balloon type object into my cervix and fill it with saline to help me dilate. The pitocin helps me to have stronger contractions. Well the pain was starting to get intense and they offered to give me some medication called Nubane. This was great took the edge off and helped me sleep. Thursday 8/28/08 around 5:30 pm they took the Foley Bulb out and told me that I was dilated to 7. This was exciting and we thought our baby would be born on this day. They broke my water and I was given an epidural. Another surprising fact, I was not dilated to 7 I was only a 5. The nurses didn't want to discourage me so they lied to me!!!!!! That was really annoying. They increased the pitocin. Okay so finally it is now Friday 8/29/08 around 3:00 am I start shaking uncontrollably and call Luis over to the bed to give me some ice chips because I am dying of thirst. He sees how bad I am shaking and notices that the baby's heart rated has sky rocketed! He calls the nurse, she finds out that I have a fever of 101.7 and gives me some Tylenol. They have to keep turning down the pitocin because its causing the baby to stress. The fever went down then came back. They check me at 6:00 am and FINALLY I have dilated to 10!!!!!! I am allowed to start pushing. I ended up pushing for 2 hours and Mia Sara Soler is finally born!!!!! 8 lbs 10 inches 20 1/2 inches long. She is so beautiful and perfect in every way. We have truly been blessed and even though we got the surprise of our life since we were so convinced it was going to be a boy we couldn't love our baby girl any more and we couldn't be happier. Welcome to the world Mia we love you very much sweetheart!
